His story
Born in Meadowlands and raised in Maboloka, Lighten is a South African solo gospel artist based in Johannesburg whose music is shaped by faith, resilience, and a life of service. Before stepping fully into his recording journey, he served as a Captain in the South African National Defence Force, including a six-month deployment to Sudan in 2007 under the African Union Mission.
His path also took him into distinguished service for President Thabo Mbeki, President Jacob Zuma, and former Deputy President Phumzile Mlambo-Ngcuka, both locally and abroad. With a BTech degree in Environmental Health and a disciplined life story behind him, Lighten brings depth, dignity, and spiritual conviction to every song.
In September 2023, Lighten began recording his gospel catalogue. Since then, he has released an expanding body of work that includes 11 single tracks, three EPs, three albums, and a total of 60 recorded songs. His calling is clear: to uplift hearts, spread the gospel of Christ, and let every melody become a testimony of hope.
